Notes about the Church As is well known, this Church was largely destroyed by enemy action during WWII, and records suggest the total loss of the parish registers. However, this does not explain the existence of images for many registers, particularly from 1813, which have charred edges. Until I can find otherwise, I assume that the parish chest offered sufficient protection to allow the preservation of the parts which have been digitised. The fields visible in these have been supplemented by material from other sources, in particular the index to marriages on freeBMD which are based on the copies made and forwarded to the General Register Office. Researchers should find these copies the most satisfactory and possibly superior to the Bishops' Transcripts which in any case were apparently not made after 1847.
