Notes about the Church |
Historically Middle Rasen had two churches, St Peter's and St Paul's. One came under the Prior and the other the Abbott. Like many things over time they both fell into disrepair and by 1860 a major restoration was needed . St Peter's was then known as the 'High Church' and St Paul was known as the 'Low Church'. Both Churches required much repair work and, because only one church was needed for the community, the decision on which would be restored was made in favour of the more interesting of the two, St Peter's
As a result of the dismantling of St Paul's, and especially since much of St Peter's restoration was carried out with material from St Paul's church, St Peter's absorbed the title of its sister church and became the only parish church of Middle Rasen, with the dedication of St Peter and St Paul. |
