Search fields

Surname Use upper- or lower-case. If you do not enter a surname (last-name) you must enter a forename, select one county and choose a place
Forename(s) Optional. Use upper- or lower-case. Abbreviations and Latin versions of the forename (first-name) will be included automatically
First year Optional, YYYY. The first year you want to search
Last year Optional, YYYY. The last year you want to search
County If you select multiple counties, all places within those counties will be searched. We use the county boundaries as they were in 1831 Select one to three (hold Ctrl for multiple)
Places for which we have data This box fills only when a single county is selected. Leave blank for all the places in a county. See also the “Nearby places” option, below Select one place or none

Search options

Family members Check to extend the search to include the person’s role as a family member or relative: for example, a spouse or parent
Witnesses Check to extend the search to include the person’s role as a witness to a marriage or baptism
Name Soundex Check to include the Soundex equivalent of the name: it is used for both surname and forename (if entered)
Check Records with no surnames
Nearby places Check to search places near to your selected starting place (up to 40 places in total). You can narrow your search after it has run
Region
Search times are limited to 100 seconds.
Please do not restart the search once it is working as this will actually slow the process.
