The top line of any program within Windows is a Title bar. It contains the name of the application on the left. On the right are a number of buttons. You may not have all of the ones shown in this example as I use a number of additional buttons to manage the screen. You WILL have the final three. These are the - or minimize button that minimizes the screen to just the name on the Windows Task Bar at the bottom of your screen. The second is the small rectangle that allows you to maximize the application page to occupy the full size of your screen; if this shows as two overlapping rectangles then it means the program already occupies the full screen, selecting it when in this state reduces the program screen to its normal opening size.The final button, the red X is the program close button. Selecting it closes the program.
The bottom line of the WinREG 2 program is the Information bar. It has four sections, 2 of which may not have information within them. The first is a notification area. If you are in a date field it reminds you that F4 Uncertain Date helper is there to assist; in a Forename/Surname field it reminds you that the F5 Uncertain Character Format helper is available to you. The second field contains the number of records last written to permanent file. The difference between this number and the the Record Count of records at the top right of the display tells you the number of unsaved records you have added. You can use this to remind yourself its time to save the file. The third field contains the current time. The last field tells you the last time you started WinREG 2.

WinREG 2 has the ability to check for and then install updates to itself when new versions have been released. There is a Menu option Configure Updating WinREG 2 where you can set the frequency for checking for updates;
On this page you can set how frequently you wish to automatically check for new versions of WinREG 2 and how you wish them to be installed. You can disable the automatic checking for new versions if you are willing to remember to check on the availability yourself. We would encourage that you let the system check for new versions on a weekly basis.
You can have the system automatically install a new version as soon as one is found. However we recommend that you select the default option that lets you know a new version is available and then install it at your convenience. Under this option you will need to manually check and install the new version at a time suitable to yourself. The system asks you to specify where the new version is to be stored after download. The default folder is likely a good location.
You can manually Check for and then install new versions. of WinREG 2 by clicking on the Check for Updates option in the Menu task. This will check to see if there is a new version. If there is it will identify the version and what the New version addresses.
If there is a new version is available we strongly urge you to take the few minutes required to install the updated version by clicking "Next". The Installer will download the new version and install it on your computer. Just follow the instruction which are identical to those when you first installed WinREG 2.
